Hostility in the Presentation Design Industry

In a close knit industry such as presentation communications we don’t really have competitors. The average person doesn’t even know our service exists. For the past 12 years I have focused on growing the industry and encouraging those around me to do the same.

In the wise words of Nancy Duarte, CEO of www.duarte.com its about growing the pie – not fighting over the pieces.

But unfortunately it seems that not everyone thinks the same, as my industry colleague (and Presentation Guru contributor) Tom Howell of Synapsis Creative recently discovered, and exposed in his article Hostility in the Presentation Design Industry.

This article really resonated with me. It’s so disheartening to see one-man bands popping up and slamming the industry and their peers. The lack of respect for those that have gone before them and encouraged, trained and supported them to build an industry that simply didn’t exist before them is shameful.

Ultimately clients and team culture will be the decider. Nobody will want to work within environments that breeds such hostility.
